Aqua Design Amano products have a simplicity and purity that is easily recognizable, and these two new products from ADA exemplify those traits. They are not the most practical for typical marine aquarists, but for those with ADA nanos they may make a nice touch to your existing equipment. It’s akin to “decorating” you kitchen with Miele or Sub Zero. They look good, there’s no harm in them being on display.
The best designs are practical and simple. For an aquarium thermometer it’s hard to beat ADA’s NA Thermometer J. All glass construction with a lip so it latches on to the edge of your aquarium. It’s small enough that it’s not an eye sore, but unique enough to be a conversation piece. I cannot comment on the accuracy, but knowing ADA I doubt they would overlook that aspect. Here you can see the different sizes to fit varying glass thickness, from 5mm to 15mm. In Japan these go for $10-$15 USD depending on the size.
Feeding dry foods to ornamentals is not as easy as throwing some food in. If you’ve used cleaning products, it’s probably not a wise move to handle the food and stick your fingers in the water. Takashi Amano and ADA have a simple solution to this– a beautifully hand crafted pellet food dispenser. Okay, so maybe you rarely handle bleach and then feed your fish, but in the back of my mind that is my own rationalization for ADA’s AP Feeder. In Japan these cost ~$25USD. Another simple solution, that may be useful to some. It makes feeding your fish quick and easy particularly if you’re the type, like I am, that tosses in some food every time you walk by your aquarium.
Designed to easily fit in your hand and give control over the amount fed, I find myself wanting to buy this. Is it practical? I don’t know. Is it cool? Yes.
